Misamis gambling den busted

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Authorities arrested 32 people, seized P102,000 worth of betting money and impounded 48 vehicles during a raid in an alleged illegal gambling den in Misamis Oriental, police said on Tuesday.Maj. Christian Relevo, spokesperson for Misamis Oriental provincial police, said the alleged operator of the illegal gambling den, identified as Sari Iras, eluded arrest.Relevo said Iras, a resident of Cagayan de Oro City and a retired police officer, reportedly maintained and operated illegal cockfighting activities, mahjong and card games in Barangay Lagtang, Alubijid Misamis Oriental.Revelo added six teams from the Misamis Oriental provincial police special operation team led by LtCol. Jolito Caseres swooped down on the illegal gambling den Sunday afternoon.He said police responded to reports of illegal activities and complaints about unidentified individuals converging in the area while Misamis Oriental is under general community quarantine with heightened alert.Also seized in the area were fighting cocks, playing cards, mahjong sets and other paraphernalia used in illegal cockfight, Relevo said.A total of 48 vehicles, mostly motorcycles, were impounded by authorities. The owners of some of the vehicles managed to escape the dragnet.He said the 32 suspects were charged Monday with violation of the Covid-19 Inter Agency Task Force protocol and illegal gambling laws under Presidential Decree 1602.
